Q: Does the Urantia Book discuss what happens to confused mortal souls who take their own life?

The Urantia Book has very few references on the subject of suicide, but in one section, it calls suicide "the final act in the drama of fleeing from the realities of mortal existence..." This sentence was in reference to the suicide of Judas, following his betrayal of Jesus.

And this:

"Suicide among men testifies that such beings have emerged from the purely animal stage of existence, and to the further fact that the exploratory efforts of such human beings have failed to attain the artistic levels of mortal experience. Animals know not the meaning of life; man not only possesses capacity for the recognition of values and the comprehension of meanings, but he also is conscious of the meaning of meanings—he is self-conscious of insight." (160:1.5)

Suicide is the final act of a person who has lost their ability, or their willingness, to cope with life anymore. As you observe, this would be a very confused person. Lots of things can cause confusion: severe mental pain, severe physical pain, extreme sorrow, extremely negative circumstances of life, or extreme hopelessness and depression. Suicide is a desperate act. It wreaks havoc on the surviving loved ones and robs the suicide of all chance of learning through the earthly living experience. However, our heavenly Father loves all of his children with a great love. He knows and understands us better than we know ourselves. I would have to assume that a suicide is dealt with on the other side just the same as any person who survives the death experience - with love, mercy and justice.
